Emergency First Aid at Work: Would You Know What to Do?

Why is first aid training important?

Accidents and medical emergencies can happen in any workplace. Employees may need to respond to situations involving an unresponsive casualty, bleeding, burns, choking or other medical emergencies.

Emergency First Aid at Work training helps learners understand how to assess a situation, respond appropriately and provide first aid while waiting for further assistance.

The course covers a range of key areas, including dealing with an unresponsive casualty, resuscitation, bleeding control, burns, choking and shock.

This video is one of the useful refreshers provided by Nuco Training alongside its Emergency First Aid at Work resources. Their updated resources also include information on the primary survey, the chain of survival and paediatric CPR.

Keeping your knowledge up to date

First-aid guidance can change as new evidence and best practice develop. The 2025 Resuscitation Council (UK) Guidelines introduced updates including earlier activation of emergency services, greater emphasis on early control of catastrophic bleeding and rapid recognition and escalation of critical situations.

This is why regular training and keeping knowledge refreshed is important for workplace first aiders.

Develop your workplace first-aid skills

The Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work course is a one-day qualification designed for workplaces where an Emergency First Aid at Work practitioner is required. The course covers key emergency response skills and, subject to successful assessment, learners can receive a three-year Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work.
