The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism Expert with lived Experience Co-Trainer Training

WHO WAS OLIVER McGOWAN?
Oliver McGowan was a young man with autism and a learning disability. Oliver sadly died because staff who cared for him did not have the understanding to look after him.

WHAT IS THE OLIVER MCGOWAN MANDATORY TRAINING ON LEARNING DISABILITY AND AUTISM?
The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is standardised and developed to ensure that health and social care providers have the right skills and knowledge to provide safe, compassionate and informed care to autistic people and people with a learning disability.
The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is conducted in two parts. Part one is E-Learning conducted through the E-learning for Healthcare (ELFH) portal. Part two learners undertake either Tier 1 or Tier 2 training. All are required to complete part one before attending their part two training.
Visit NHS England’s The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training webpages for information and guidance about Oliver’s Training.

Course Overview

The 3-day course prepares those who wish to co-deliver the Part Two, Tier 2 single day training session as an Expert with Lived Experience, accompanied by a facilitator trainer.

There are separate courses for co-trainers wishing to deliver the learning disability session and autism session. Co-trainers are able to be dual trained but are not able to co-deliver both sessions to groups. You will gain the experience of seeing the face-to-face course delivered and be provided with additional information and adaptable practices to support co-delivery once approved

We actively encourage attendees to share their own experiences during the session. Your insight is welcome, and this is a space for open discussion and learning from one another.
