Our commitment

Accessibility Statement

We want everyone to be able to use our website, whatever device, ability or assistive technology they use.

What we aim for

We aim for this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more usable for people with disabilities, and they are built around four ideas: content should be perceivable, operable, understandable and robust.

We have reviewed the site ourselves. It has not yet been through a full independent accessibility audit, so we cannot say it meets every requirement. We would rather be open about that and keep improving it.

What we have done

  • Images: photos and graphics have a short description for screen readers, and purely decorative images are hidden from them.
  • Structure: each page has a clear heading structure, a "skip to main content" link and labelled landmarks, so you can move around without reading everything.
  • Keyboard use: menus, buttons, and forms can all be used with a keyboard, and the item you are on is highlighted.
  • Forms: every form field has a visible label, and required fields are marked.
  • Links and buttons: link text is written to make sense on its own, for example "Read article" sits under the article title.
  • Screen sizes: pages adjust from large desktop screens down to small phones, and you can enlarge text and zoom using your browser.
  • Movement: if your device is set to reduce motion, we turn off smooth scrolling and number animations.
  • Plain language: we write in plain English and avoid jargon where we can.

Known limitations

  • Colour contrast: some orange buttons and small orange labels use white or orange text that is lighter than the AA contrast level. We are working on this.
  • PDF documents: our course guide and our Terms and Conditions are available as PDFs, and they may not work fully with screen readers. The same information is on this website as ordinary pages, and we can send other formats on request.
  • Third-party content: the Google reviews feed and some embedded content come from other companies, and we do not control how accessible they are.
  • Images with words in them: some article graphics include text. The same words appear in the page heading next to them.

Browsers and devices

The site is designed for the current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android. It also works with screen readers and with keyboard-only use. Very old browsers may not show every feature.
