Course Overview
Tier 2 is Part 2 of the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training for staff who need a deeper understanding. It is designed for staff who provide direct support or care to people with learning disabilities or autism.
The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is completed in two parts, but the Tier 2 session you book with us is a single day:
- Part 1 (eLearning, completed beforehand): Self-paced learning through the E-learning for Healthcare (ELFH) portal, covers foundational concepts of learning disability and autism
- Part 2 (Tier 2 face-to-face): This 1-day session with us, builds on Part 1 with practical, hands-on support strategies and real-world scenarios
All learners must complete Part 1 before attending their Tier 2 face-to-face training. Together they cover the foundations and the practical support skills.
Our 1-day session is led by a facilitator, supported by co-facilitators who have lived experience. You'll learn advanced communication techniques, behaviour support strategies, safeguarding, and person-centred care approaches specific to learning disability and autism.
Reimbursement available: This training is eligible for Learning and Development Support Scheme reimbursement. Read our guide on OMMT reimbursement eligibility.
All our trainers are qualified by the NHS and Yorkshire Futures is an approved provider. The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is a national delivery model.
