Most compliance problems are not caused by missing training. They are caused by expired training that nobody noticed.

Good records and regular refreshers keep everyone confident and compliant.

Build a training matrix

List every member of staff down one side and every course they need across the top. For each cell, record the date completed and the date it needs refreshing. Check it monthly, and book refreshers well ahead of expiry.

Typical refresh guidance

TrainingTypical guidance
First Aid at Work / Emergency First Aid at WorkCertificate valid for 3 years; annual refresher recommended
Paediatric First AidCertificate valid for 3 years
Mental Health First AidCertificate valid for 3 years
Basic Life Support & AEDAnnual refresher commonly recommended
Fire Safety and Manual HandlingNo fixed legal expiry; refresh based on your risk assessment, commonly every 1 to 3 years

Always check your own policies, commissioners and regulators for any stricter requirements.

Make it easy

  • Give one person ownership of the matrix.
  • Book refreshers as a group to save time and cost.
  • Use new starter checklists so no one slips through the gaps.

We offer in-house and on-site delivery, so we can bring the training to your team at a time that works for you.
